The breaks of 'Playa de las Americas' and 'Los Christianos’ are usually exclusively for surfers. However, La Fitenia in front of the holiday fortresses of 'Parque Santiago 3’ is an insider tip in north-westerly low-pressure or a hot Saharan south-easterly Calima. The buildings mean the wind’s often pretty gusty, but the waves break really clean – especially in a south-easterly, when they also get sorted out by the windward sea wall. The launch is as rocky as the reef; sharp stones everywhere, especially at low tide, so kiters definitely need an experienced buddy to launch and land. If this all sounds too gnarly, there's always family-friendly action on the water-slides and wave-pool in nearby Siam Park.
