La Lanzada
Rías Baixas, Galicia
Auszug aus dem KITE AND WINDSURFING GUIDE:
Not only do surfers, windsurfers and kiters value La Lanzada, Galician women do too. Legend says that if they throw themselves into the water on a particular September saint's day, they will soon become mothers. Hmmm. You’ll probably have more luck if you come to ride here in September: in summer, west to north-westerlies blow cross to cross-onshore. That means pure down-the-line waveriding with all-too-rare swell – for up to 300m on good days. With no swell, it’s usually choppy freeride. In winter south-westerlies, waves can easily reach mast-high, making Lanzada the most popular big-wave spot in the whole Rías Baixas. Along with mountainous seas comes gnarly shorebreak; the waves are cleanest as it starts to rain on the front of a low-pressure system. The landscape is a joy to behold in all seasons.
