Anzio, Lido Garda

An outcrop of rocky reef extends out to sea between Lavinio and Anzio. Launch from the sandy beach of Lido Garda – which works surprisingly well in wintertime Maestrale (north-westerly) and Tramontana (northerly). If the wind veers northerly after blowing strong south or south-westerly, the break gets particularly big and the waves clean and powerful. The northern side of the cape ('Anzio Ponente') is traditionally popular among surfers, although these days kiters and windsurfers are welcome too. The closer you get to the port of Anzio, the rockier the coast – and the more difficult the launch becomes.
