The road from Tangier to Cape Spartel leads through luxurious residential suburbs, including one of the king’s own palaces. The first beach around the headland is Akachar: a good winter venue for medium swell – if it gets too big, the waves close-out. Cross-onshore wind works best in the little bay. This popular swimming beach gets too crowded for kiting in summer, but at least the café stays open year-round.
