This little fishing village is less touristy than 'Moledo', although the beach soon fills up in summer. It's a similar story on the water, especially at the peak: 'Praia Vila de Ancora’ is among North Portugal’s favourite surf spots. Depending on the position of its sandbars, the rivermouth can host really long waves – the best launch is left of the southern breakwater, but it only works in south to south-westerly winds. As houses block northerlies, Nortada only blows through south of the footbridge. The waves aren't as clean here but are a bit bigger, and there's plenty of room to launch a kite. There are a few rocks in the rivermouth and up near the breakwater. Water quality is average.
