Arealonga

This lagoon spot in Ría del Barquero surrounded by evergreen forests is the region’s most popular flat-water kite venue in the north-easterly summer thermal. There’s enough room for a relaxed launch at the long beach, and small waves only make it in from the open ocean from time to time; it never gets bigger than 1m. There’s also a large standing-depth area, although parts of it dry out at low tide. The water's a bit colder here due to the river too. In south-westerly winds you can also windsurf from the bay's eastern end, at O Vicedo's slightly less beautiful Praia Fomento.
