Bigbury

Devon & Cornwall

Auszug aus dem KITE AND WINDSURFING GUIDE:

In easterly winds and a big S swell, Bigbury offers some of the best port tack wavesailing in England. Waves peel across an enormous bay from Bantham in the east all the way to Bigbury Beach – that’s nearly 800m! Easterlies can strengthen by up to 10 knots as they funnel down the valley, particularly when it's sunny. Without swell it’s fine for intermediates and freeriders, and with small waves it's an amazing freestyle venue – a real salt-water skatepark! The wavesailing's also particularly good in west to north-westerly winds, best at mid to high tide, when although Burgh Island makes the wind a little gusty it can be classic. The waves in the estuary can get huge and it’s an especially dangerous place to sail on an outgoing tide. Kiters tend to avoid high water as there's little sand left, and often choose to launch onto less crowded waters at 'Bantham'. The setting at Bigbury is super-relaxed though, with a car-park overlooking the beach and excellent take-away coffee!
