Although hardly the prettiest place to windsurf, Blyth is Northumberland's best spot. Launch at the north end of this long sandy beach for good wavesailing throughout the tide in prevailing cross-offshore south-westerly winds. Although sheltered from the heaviest N swell by the rivermouth and pier, there are groynes, dumping waves and rips to contend with towards high tide, so it's really not ideal for kiting.
