!Spot closed! We have received news from our network that the municipality has banned kitesurfing and windsurfing in Broager for an indefinite period of time. As soon as we are informed that the restrictions will be lifted again, we will report this immediately.
Two spots vie for attention beneath Broager’s distinctive twin-towered church. The old 'Brickworks’ suits kiting thanks to open terrain, a relatively broad range of sailable wind directions, and a large standing-depth area. Kitesurfing is allowed from September 16th to May 14th to protect the business of the brickworks museum and the local bird life. The area has a few suitable parking spots as long as you respect the grounds of the museum and don't park your cars or launch your kites there.
Once on water, the spot is amazing. You will find no current, the water is knee deep very far out, and the windwaves break far offshore over a sandbar. Last but not least it is surrounded by land on three sides which means additinal safety although there are no lifeguards or safety triangles, etc.
Broager Bay is best kitesurfed form southerly to westerly wind directions and, although the wind may be gusty as it comes in over land, it's just great for beginners and flatwater enthusiasts.
Non-surfers can enjoy a nice stroll on ”Gendarmstien”, a hiking trail extending from Høruphav in the east to Padborg further west, a total of 74 km. The trail passes right by the spot and is well signposted, so there's no worry to get lost.
A little further south in the bay, there's a freeride venue by 'Brunsnæs’ offering a bump-&-jump wave in south-easterly winds. There's a car-park and lavatory facilities near the hot-dog stand, which can satiate your post-session appetite.
