This is the most popular spot for wave newcomers, as in a south-westerly you can approach the break from behind. South-westerly (cross-on, starboard tack) also provides the cleanest wind. West or north-westerly it’s better at 'Garretstown'. In a south-easterly, windsurfers head around the corner to launch at the slipway by the Pink Elephant pub for port tack wavesailing – the slippery launch is really sketchy for kiters though.
