Daymer Bay
Devon & Cornwall
Auszug aus dem KITE AND WINDSURFING GUIDE:
Cornwall’s most versatile location offer various conditions around the Camel rivermouth and throughout the tide – although the deceptively safe-looking bay can be very dangerous on an ebb tide, which can hit 8 knots. On the far side of the estuary, Hawker's Cove hosts Cornwall's finest jumping conditions – well worth a look in west or north-westerly winds. In north-easterlies kiters love the flat water inside Stepper Point, but tend to stay on the Daymer side in westerlies. At low tide in west to north-westerlies, head higher up the channel for speed or freestyle. Daymer Bay itself offers perfect entry-level wavesailing as soft, well-spaced waves wrap around the point, generally a metre smaller than elsewhere in Cornwall and best in a south-westerly wind. At low to mid-tide experienced wavesailors venture 500m offshore to the notorious Doom Bar for cross to cross-off riding in west to south-westerly winds. In a huge swell, it's Cornwall’s 'Secret Indonesia’ with a peeling right-hander that's occasionally sailed in a north-easterly. There are some kitesurfing restrictions on the beach in peak season, but there's always a friendly café and surf-shop in nearby Polzeath.
