If you're not so keen on flat water, the beach-break on the ocean side of Lagoa de Óbidos is worth a look. It gets very big and powerful with enough swell, while high tide brings a meaty shorebreak. Unfortunately, the Nortada is only good for big kites and rarely enough for windsurfing. Best wind directions are cross-shore south-west and cross-on north-westerly. With so many swimmers, kiting isn't officially allowed in high summer.
