Gizzeria Lido, Hangloose Beach

It's no surprise that the biggest beach on Calabria’s Tyrrhenian coast is very popular with windsurfers and kiters. They come from Lamezia Terme, Vibo Valentia, Catanzaro and Cosenza for the reliable north-westerly summer thermal of 12-25 knots. Turn off the A3 at 'Lamezia Terme’ and you can already see kites in the sky. Two spots compete for the local scene’s heart: 'Hangloose Beach' to the north and 'Camping Fabiano' further south. There are plenty of non-surfers enjoying the beach-clubs too – but do as the Italians do: don’t complain about a crowded beach, just enjoy the company. When westerly low-pressure winds reach Force 6 to 8, the waves can get serious.
