A World Cup venue with conditions to match, Gowlane offers the biggest waves in the Bay and prevailing south-westerlies blow strongest here (although again, it’s often gusty at high tide). If you get caught on the inside on a big day, be prepared to swallow a lot of water – and try to keep hold of your kit, or it’s a long swim home! Best waves are at mid-tide on the push. If it's busy you can park on the beach, although the sand is pretty soft.
