Hanstholm

Northern Jutland

Auszug aus dem KITE AND WINDSURFING GUIDE:

When a north-west to west-north-westerly wind’s too onshore at Klitmøller, the wave scene embark on an inevitable migration north. The coastline heads east at Hanstholm, so it’s cross-shore again here. Strong wind delivers massive swell, yet a big breakwater keeps currents and shorebreak fairly tame. Perfect riding and jumping conditions will soon get you over the stench of the fish plant and sewage works; and keep your mouth closed if you wipe-out, as the sewage outfall is just near the breakwater. The beach consists of sharp limestone, plus there are a few mussels in the water, so boots might be wise. A bit further east the waves run just as clean at 'Middles', where the air smells distinctly less fishy. Fortunately, plans for an offshore wind farm and inshore fish farm which threatened the spot have been shelved for the moment.
