Hill Head

The other side of Southampton, the water’s rarely all that rough at Hill Head and nearby 'Salterns Park', as this coastline is so well protected by the Isle of Wight. Beginners shouldn't be fooled though: there are strong cross-shore currents, while high tide can mean shorebreak on the steeper sections of beach. It’s a great freeride spot though – there's even a sandbar that can produce soft waves at mid-tide, while at low tide you’ll be in-depth quite a long way out. Hence on sunny weekends Hill Head can fill up with hordes of intermediate windsurfers and kiters.
