L'Hospitalet – L'Arenal

L'Hospitalet de l'Infant is primarily a south-east to south-westerly thermal spot – Garbí and Xaloc start blowing in springtime, and so close to the mountains they're a little stronger than elsewhere. Launch at the large Platja de l'Arenal for freeride. If the thermal builds there's even a little wave with wind from the right, it's cleanest behind the harbour-wall at Platja Punta del Rio. Levante brings the most waves, but the shorebreak’s huge in higher windstrengths – seek shelter behind the breakwater if it gets too much. It's not quite as brutal at the northern end of Platja de l'Arenal, plus the waves are cleaner. L'Hospitalet enjoys the cleanest water in the region; it's a pity kiting's banned in high season.
