Lissadell

Lissadell is the region's main freestyle kiting venue. The tide has quite an effect in this shallow bay; at high water the beach is narrow but there's a large standing-depth area. The water recedes a long way at low tide, revealing a deep channel further out. South to south-easterly wind works best, although it’s often a bit gusty. The beach is situated in the grounds of Lissadell House, an old manor house in the surrounding hills with strong connections to the Yeats family. This publicly accessible estate begs a big question: how are you ever going to heat this place in winter?
