Just twenty minutes east of the Scottish capital, Longniddry is Edinburgh’s nearest spot. Conditions in the Firth of Forth are pretty relaxed in the prevailing westerly winds, although it does get choppier further out. At high tide, watch out for large rocks lurking just under the surface near the water’s edge. When the tide’s out, at least you can memorise their position to occupy a long walk to the water!
