There's rarely anyone but surfers in the water at this deserted sandy beach behind the NATO airbase at São Pedro de Maceda. The waves break really well over a sandy seabed – big swell brings a strong current and some shorebreak. Depending on the tidal state and location of sandbars, small, shallow lagoons form further south. The eroded cliffs make a striking backdrop.
