This is a really popular venue – and the safest for beginners as it offers perfectly flat water, often barely chest-deep. The estuary is separated from open sea by a railway line so it's excellent for freestyle; often the best spot north of Dublin in a westerly. Choose your launch on either shore depending on wind direction; anything but southerly works at 'Malahide Yacht Club' on the south bank, alternatively there’s 'Kilcrea' on the north bank.
