Matalascañas

The area around Matalascañas is more famous for Pentecostal pilgrimages and bird watching in the Doñana national park – conditions here are average at best, with chaotic waves and powerful shorebreak on a steep beach. It's best at low tide, when there’s more room to launch on the seemingly endless beach. Freeride days are better then too, as you ride up to the beautiful beaches of the nature reserve. When it gets too crowded in summer, the beach north of town between the lighthouse and campsite is better – it's also worth a visit for the 'catch of the day’ seafood at Chiringuito Pichilín.
