The southerly wind backs off a bit here, which can be handy in fierce weather. Typical of this coastline, there’s a strong current at Petten – which is also punctuated by rocky breakwaters. The village near the beach is nestled into a beautiful dune landscape with little freshwater lakes, although the industrial developments aren’t far away. The quality of Petten's waves even attracts surfers.
