Playa del Risco

Most people only see this place from above – namely the viewing platform at Mirador del Rio, on the highest peak in the north. The passage to Isla Graciosa opens up at the foot of its steep 600m western flank. This little strait catches the wind nicely, while the water usually stays mirror-flat in the shelter of the cape and island. There are just two drawbacks: parking is only available near the summit (and that 600m descent is a tough warm-up, not forgetting the climb back up later!) Plus if you drop your kite on the water and have trouble relaunching, you might have to ditch your gear as wind and current both pull offshore. The only safe option is an excursion by boat from Isla Graciosa to the mainland.
