Portstewart
Northern Ireland
Auszug aus dem KITE AND WINDSURFING GUIDE:
This classic beach-break is just west of Portstewart, yet another of Ulster’s favourite holiday destinations – the local Morelli’s Ice Cream Parlour is famous all over Ireland. The beach is nearly 3km long though, so don’t expect a crowded session. It's usually best to ride about 500m west of the entrance – one of Northern Ireland’s best spots in small swell and west to south-westerly wind. It can be amazing in a big swell too, with six to eight bottom turns not uncommon. Yet there are strong rips whatever size the swell, so you’d be wise to opt for a slightly bigger board. Also be careful when parking; the water comes right in at high tide, and has swept a few cars away in its time. The local kiters ride in onshore conditions too. Neighbouring 'Castlerock', 'Downhill' and 'Benone' create one of the longest beaches in Northern Ireland – and they all suit similar conditions.
