Reggio Calabria

The writer D’Annunzio once called the promenade of Reggio Calabria “Europe’s most beautiful kilometre”. This is a place with great cultural and culinary potential. Surfing and eating aside, do take the time to visit the Riace Bronzes in the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia. The best time for windsports is from late April to November in consistent north to north-westerly thermals of up to 25 knots or slightly gustier low-pressure south to south-westerlies. This peachy flat-water spot has negligible chop, a gently shelving sandy seabed, and great views of Sicily and Etna. There’s precious little room on land so it's tricky for kiters, who prefer 'Punta Pellaro'.
