The bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz is protected from huge Biscay swells by concrete breakwaters. If the swell’s big enough, a clean right-hander breaks on a jetty in front of 'Sainte Barbe’ and reforms in the bay. Keep an eye out for rocks and concrete blocks at low tide, as they're barely submerged. When warm southerly wind blows in, it's strongest here.
