The beach-break at Santa Cruz is another well-known surf spot, yet there's little conflict along such a vast beach. It can get tight on hot summer days, but more on land than in the water, as thousands of visitors crowd the beach in front of town. Therefore kiters prefer 'Prais do Mirante' a little way north. It has to blow extremely hard in Guincho before there's enough for floaty windsurfing kit here.
