Schiermonnikoog West End

Noordzeestrand in front of De Marlijn restaurant offers perfect cross-shore conditions in west or easterly winds. Cross-on works too, even if it is a bit rougher. In south-west or really strong north-easterlies, it's better beyond the sandbar at 'West End'. The waves peeling around the island are so good that some even sail across from Lauwersoog. But be careful as the tidal currents are massive! Launch from two hours before high tide and head back to shore no later than two hours afterwards, or else the long walk back over mudflats is a real mission.
