Schönberger Strand

T-shaped breakwaters every 150m reinforce the beach from here to 'Heidkate', protecting dykes the whole length of these beautiful sands. Further out there are typically steep Baltic jump-ramps. The best winds are cross to cross-onshore – cross-shore allows the most room, and the water between the groynes stays mirror-flat for waterstarts and manoeuvres. Waves are a little bigger in cross-onshore. Facilities are up to Kiel standards; kiosks, toilets and hence countless sunbathers in summer. There’s even a pier for close-up action shots without a waterproof camera.
