St-Laurent-du-Var

Right next to Nice Airport, this is primarily a freeride and beginner's location. The kite launch is at the eastern end of the bay, where the Var rivermouth’s current pushes out towards open water. But be careful, as you'll need to stay a safe distance away from the runway’s flightpath. Wrap up warm too, as the water in the river estuary is some 3-4°C colder than average for the area. There’s some swell further out in easterly wind, but otherwise fun in the waves is limited by the many rocky breakwaters. Springtime morning katabatic winds that descend into the bay from the snow-capped Southern Alps can power nice runs over butter-flat water. The launch and car-park are right behind the shopping centre.
