Terrain de Foot, Gâvres

There are three decent breaks in the military zone on the Gâvres peninsula – and they’re not so well-known either. Terrain de Foot on the end of the peninsula is a moderate wave spot where south-westerly blows from the right; westerly’s a bit gusty. The swell (S to W) has to be pretty big for waves to form – on rare huge days, there’s a shorebreak at high tide. Life gets tough on spring tides as the water floods to the sea-wall; low tide means danger for fins – rocks lurk near the launch and where the waves break, 800m offshore. Back on dry land there are nice dunes, grass for rigging and a good campsite.
