Plymouth's nearest spot is the tidal estuary of St John's Lake in Torpoint. South of the ferry terminal, there's free parking on Chapeldown Road overlooking mudflats that form super-flat channels for speedsailing and freestyle as they expose below mid-tide. It's a good beginner spot on a higher tide too, and up the road Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club welcomes windsurfers with showers and changing rooms.
