This 5km-long, partially sheltered sandy beach also changes character with the season and wind direction. Low-pressure winter southerlies (cross-shore) bring moderate wave conditions. Poniente is cross-on to onshore with chop or small waves, and gets a thermal boost on sunny afternoons. Levante sees the bay super-flat and best suits freeride or racing. Depending on wind direction, launch either from the promenade or closer to the nature reserve. Kiting is banned in front of the city in summer. The southern end with its lagoons and waves breaking over sandbars is sadly only accessible on foot, by bicycle or via summer's tourist train.
