Vargas

Gran Canaria

Auszug aus dem KITE AND WINDSURFING GUIDE:

This former World Cup venue can handle the greatest volume of riders –the bay is almost 4km long, so there’s enough room for everyone. Swimmers to the far left, windsurfers in the middle (right in front of windsurfing world champion Philip Köster's house) and kiters in the south, where the waves even get a touch bigger. These days there are often more kites than sails in the bay. At low tide there's even a sandy beach to launch from, although high water delivers shorebreak onto the rocks. Vargas is very popular with the locals, so the standard’s suitably high. If you're windsurfing here for the first time, try to stay downwind of the car-park to avoid collisions with the experienced riders. Vargas works best in standard north-easterly Passat and NE swell; just like 'Ojos de Garza', the waves are best on a flood tide.
