Watergate Bay

Home to the 'Extreme Academy’, Cornwall’s most popular kite beach regularly hosts pro competitions. Another very popular surfing beach, Watergate can get very busy in the summer. Although rarely visited by windsurfers, it’s sometimes worth a look as it picks up more swell than beaches further south. Best in a south-westerly wind and SW swell, but good for onshore kiting in west to north-westerly, it’s no-go for 4 hours around high tide as the water floods right up to the cliffs. After a session there’s a choice of fine dining in Jamie Oliver’s '15’ restaurant overlooking the beach, or Newquay’s raucous nightlife just up the road.
