Best in south to south-easterly winds, the Dee Estuary at West Kirby offers a large, waist-deep, flat water area that's ideal for kiters – suiting everyone from beginners to full-on freestylers. You'll need to watch the tides as the water retreats a seriously long way at low. Alternatively, just over the wall from the car-park, windsurfers tend to sail on the fully enclosed Marine Lake: home to Britain's fastest 500m speedstrip, and also perfect for freestyle.
