Zurriola, or 'Playa de Gros', is a well-known surf-spot that hosts various competitions. When strong cross-on westerly winds force the surfers back in, you can score great wavesailing sessions too. In onshore north-westerlies (often arriving with a passing low) it's only good for kiting. The waves tend to stay smaller in summer; you’ll just have to watch out for swimmers and a gnarly shorebreak at high tide. The tapas and seafood in San Sebastian's harbour restaurants are legendary!
